Reflection

Hey guys!! It's almost here: THE END

This project went by so fast it's crazy! I learned what it was like to be a real life director, producer, and editor. It showed me how much time and effort it takes to come up with a piece of work! If it took me this long just for TWO minutes, I can't imagine 2 hours or even 5 minutes. Everything is so precise to the detail, it makes me truly appreciate great pieces of work.

A very important person that absolutely could not have done this without is my partner, Daniela Rodriguez. We balance each other out so well, I feel bad for other pairs who don't have the balance that we do. I think it definitely worked to our advantage that we are such close friends outside of this class. The only setback we had  was how we both left the country so it was very difficult to keep into contact with her as I barley had any wifi and neither did she.

As I look back upon our footage, I wish we had elaborated more on the fact that he is in the army. With either some form of hat or shirt. I think it is a little unclear, until the war noises, on the fact that he is a war veteran and that's the reason why he has that picture of his wife.

Anyway, this was an amazing experience and I'm glad I recommended my little brother into taking this class!!!

Reality Day 2!

Today we went to Ella's cafe and I fell in love with it!! The atmosphere is so cute and the people are so cool! We of course explained tot the people that we had a school project and if they allowed us two film inside. Fortunately for us, they let us! But before they let us film we had to do a few details.

We printed a picture of Daniela, and said, Hey we need to make this look old and like it's been through a lot.
So we came up with the idea of putting coffee on the picture to give it that vintage look.

But I don't think it came out as how we hoped it would have.

Again, I'm no camera experiment and I kept getting my shadow in the shot ughhhhh!!

BUT I'm not a quitter!! I played with the angles and retook the shot until it came out right like this one:

Here I'm still able to get the book and the picture without capturing my shadow.
It was also difficult to find the right timing for when there wasn't too many people.

It's hard to remember that real people had real lives that don't involve this project hahaha.
So a lot of scenes took a lot of takes, but we were still able to get the scenes we had hoped for.

Reality!!

Hey Guys!!! So today was our first day of filming and wow I did not expect us to execute this so well. Using Daniela's iPhone was probably of the best ideas we thought of. Her quality is INSANEEEEE

The only thing difficult was to try and get an open space where there wasn't that many people. Since Markham Park is a public park, but we still managed!!!!
It was also really hard for me to try and not get my shadow in some of the shots.

We had some spare time so we also did the special FX make up today too.
I told my dad & he said he'd help me so thank goodness.

To get a solid black background we used a black comforter I had in my closet and we hung it on my shower. We literally filmed in my bathroom!!!

We used my phone flash to create the high lighting and low lighting. Overall I think it came out really good!

tickin & tickin

 Hey Guys!!!
I know I've been a little ghost on you guys but I went out of the country & flew HOME!
Let me update you guys on some old information that I don't think I shared with you guys...

For starters, this is a rough draft of our story-board:

We used to sticky notes to be able to switch around and play with the order of the scenes to get the most effective outcome. Although the SB doesn't go by the exact second, we are still very worried that we have so much material to fit into just two minutes. We may have to discuss and decide which scenes are the most vital to our story.

Nightmare On Our Street

IM SO EXCITED I CAN'T EVEN USE MY NORMAL INTRO BECAUSE IM SO EXCITED.
We came up with the greatest idea ever!!!
Because we decided the quick cuts are going to be very hard to fill up a whole 2 minutes, we need to come up with something that gives it a little more plot and juice. So we were like let's see let's think...
  AND THEN WE GOT IT.
The excerpt will end with a boy waking up from this horrible nightmare. He'll be drenched in sweat and frantic and totally realistic.
AND WE HAVE JUST THE GUY!
One of Daniela's close work friends who also goes to our school will be the perfect fit. He'd be more than happy to do and will be committed to the acting! His credentials follow the fact that he's starring in this Friday's MAMAMIA!
This is going to be so epic I honestly cannot wait and I know you guys can't either!!!!

Say Yes To The Dress

Hello Human Creatures!!!!!!!!

Our end project is coming closer and closer I'm actually so excited!
Some people might think like "Ugh what a drag, another worthless, time consuming project"
But no. Anything that has to do with bringing a vision to life excites the crap out of me. Whether it's writing, music, or anything in particular.
TO THE JIST OF IT ALL
  TODAY LET'S TALK  MISE-EN-SCENE

Mise- en- scene has anything to do with the visual aspects of a scene. Since we're going to be using a very natural setting, wardrobe is key here. To present Daniela's character the best way we could, we have to think about different ways that we could do this.

White usually symbolize innocence and purity, which is exactly the first impression we want to give the audience about Daniela's character. She'll be wearing a flowy white dress to go with the wind and make her look like a feather.
Then the quick cuts will be to this monster version of herself. She will be wearing the same white dress. However, it will be distressed and covered and blood. This will help with the irony of the blood  with the white and the soundscape of a chaotic moment.
We're definitely going to be creating this look DIY. Meaning we will cut up the dress ourselves and pour blood over it.
Something along the lines of this:

So that's really it for wardrobe!!!
   Goodnight my human creatures!!!!

2 faced

Hello Human Creatures!!!!
Today I called out of work for the first time ever and I was so scared because I thought I was going to get fired. Phew, anyway if you know anywhere that's hiring LET ME KNOW... just kidding.

Okay so the idea of Daniela's character. This mystery girl. We want to show two sides of her. Both in which contrast visually.
The first is an "angelic" character. She's going to be wearing white and we're going to be doing this in a field. We're still not sure what time of the day we're going to be doing, either midst day or sunset. We'll probably film in both and decide which sets the tone more.

   INSPIRATIONS FOR "ANGELIC" CHARACTER

We'll use a "glow" effect to really captivate that heavenly/ angelic character.

The other side is going to be the opposite, however while still wearing the same clothes. We can use fake blood to cover the clothes and special FX to get that "AHH" look. My dad is really good at applying special fx make up, every year he helps out our family members in getting their desired look. He can help us create this look and give us some tips.

We can definitely use his advise!!!
To switch between these two sides of the character, we'll definitely be using fast pace editing and really quick cuts.
I'm so excited to create this and make our vision come to life!!!!! STAY TUNEDDD

Hello Human creatures!!!!

We’re debating either a very bloody version of Daniela or superwrecked. We’re talking about  special FX make up and everything!!! Anywayyy I’ll keep in touch !

Monkey "Hear"?

   Hello Human Creatures!!!

Today I was absent in class because I was visiting the college I'm attending: UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDAAAA!!!!!
However, my partner was. She told me that they were split into groups and they each shared their ideas for the film opening.
Daniela told me the tips our classmates shared with her, and some are definitely so helpful.

THANK GOODNESS we can use the already-produced sound scapes that we had previously used before in our sound project. This gets me extremely excited because I LOVED the sound project so much. I loved working with different levels of volume and the variety of aspects of sound used to make one "story". This is going to be extra great because the "story" we plan to create with the sound is COMPLETELY different from the "story" we plan to create with visuals.
We're still deciding between two versions of "chaos". Something definitely with sirens, crying, and screaming. Maybe all three but different levels / perspective.
ANYWAYYY I'll let you guys know!!!!!!

Monkey See

Do you ever have a million ideas running through your head? Your brain is at a million miles per hour while your physical being is probably at a dead end? Your mind goes way too fast for your body. Yes, that is me. Every second I think about this project, I come up with like 4890 thousand more ideas. Obviously some are immediately disposed for obvious reasons.
Like I can't film an opening in outer space because it's so hard to find an astronaut costume. And I can't film a shark attack underwater because I can only hold my breathe for so long.
But anyway, after having a long talk with my partner, we finally came up with something. An inspiration. A track or overall idea of something we want to do in the THRILLER genre.

Today I'm going to give you an idea of what we plan to do, visually.
Daniela, as we all know, is not too bad to look out. ( everyone go check out her blog, literally an upcoming model). She's going to be the main focus in our opening. It will take place in a nice pretty field off of Griffin road which is literally two minutes away, we can literally walk there.
Here's an inspiration of what we plan to accomplish with our opening:

In my head I see fast pace cuts with medium shots and long shots and playful angles. Daniela in all white, to represent innocence. We want to highlight this color appointed with Daniela's character. A way or kind of an idea of how to "show off" or even rub this color in the audience's face is inspired from The Great Gatsby Scene, where the audience is first introduced to Daisy.
Do you see the way the curtains dance with the wind? The white gives you a feeling of safety and beauty. Yes, that is exactly how we plan to introduce Daniela's character.
That's all we have so far, but trust me if you keep in touch and I won't feel like such a bother.... You will not regret it!!!

'Cause this is THRILLERR!!!

Hello human creatures!!!
I told you guys I was going to get annoying, and here it is. I know you guys are annoyed because even I'M annoyed with myself.
But the OG ones wouldn't mind and keep on reading.
So topic of today is: GENRE DECISION.
   Yay!
So I'm not sure I mentioned in any blog posting earlier, but yes I have a partner for my film opening. Her name is Daniela and she's alright I guess... JUST KIDDING! Daniela is my partner for the portfolio project and my friend, a "BFF', if you will. She's a model... seriously.
We discussed today on what the genre should be and we both brought two ideas to the table. I brought horror of course (because I'm a scorpio duh), which she immediately turned down. So rude...
However, we compromised and decided to do...
   ready..
I don't think you guys are ready...
   Okay fine...
   We decided to do...
       THRILLER
Many Thrillers include a protagonist, who would obviously be introduced in our opening scene, with kind of a slow tempo in the beginning, but definitely not boring. In our film opening it would be a blend of thrillers conventions and basic opening scene conventions.
Use of close ups and extreme close ups of the protagonist are used frequently in thrillers, and will be used in our opening.
     In very popular film, Split.
The audience is immediately introduced with a medium shot of the protagonist. Split is. by far my favorite example of a thriller film. The opening is fantastic and although it isn't a "slow tempo" like most thrillers, it still follows many conventions.
What me and my partner decided to do is use a a load of irony in our film opening. The soundscape and the actual visual content will not match. The audio would be disastrous while the visual is graceful. Close ups will be used and smiles and natural light. All the elements that the eyes of the audience will feel calm, but their ears will be distressed.
With this technique, it will captivate our audience and get their full attention from the absolute beginning.
Well my human creatures, It's time to part our ways as I leave my keyboard and you your screen. I hope I wasn't too annoying. Thank you guys (:

I'm Back & I'm Betta

     Hello human creatures!!!!
I know I've been a little a-wall lately and my deepest apologies...  Actually nah. Not sorry. Sorry I'm not sorry.
Well, behalf on sorriness that I'm not sorry, I'd like to announce: I'M BACK!1!1!
Yes, you're absolute favorite blogger is back. I'm talking about weekly blogs with up to four updates a week. You're going to wish I was gone again... THAT'S how annoying I'm going to get.
So as our portfolio project get's closer, some pretty important decisions have to be made. For starters, the genre for our film opening.
  My options are HORROR.
Horror has always been a personal favorite, probably because I'm a scorpio... I don't even know.
Horror has just is many unique conventions that I would absolutely love to try myself. I mentioned the majority of these conventions in one of my older blogs.
I'd most definitely would want to incorporate  a remarkable source of natural light.
I'm gonna talk about a specific film opening. The Exorcist. It's not long, it's just the opening so take the two minutes to understand and follow what I'm going to explain.
In this opening, the director uses the most direct source of natural light there is: the sun. The sun, the way it opens, is not tiny or hidden, it's shown directly. In a way to get in the audience's face. My favorite example of excellent use of natural light.

Another great example of how I, hopefully, plan to use natural light is in the opening scene of The Grudge.
The sun is of course the source of the natural light. However, movement is incorporated. Medium and movement shots are used which definitely helps with technique for my film opening as well.
Hopefully with these two great examples you can sort of get an idea of the lighting for my film opening.
   Goodnights my human creatures!
